KPFA Radio was the first listener-sponsored non-commercial radio stationin
the United States. It is the flagship of the 5-station Pacifica Radio
Network. KPFA broadcasts at 59,000 watts, and was founded in 1949 as an
alternative to the corporate media. KPFA still accepts no advertising
or underwriting of any kind. Instead, we rely upon our listener/subscribers
whose donations account for 85% of KPFAs $2.6 annual budgeted income.
This independent funding base allows us to present programs thatare free
of any influences that can affect the content of our shows. KPFA's programming
is eclectic, with a mix of news and public affairs, music, and arts and
culture shows as our daily schedule. KPFA is a community-based radio station;
most of our programming is presented by volunteer producer/hosts who are
experts in their chosen fields.
